(De)coding Balkan presents a process od recreating Balkan identity based on previous traditions and future intentions towards desirable images. It is also the main topic of International conference which will be held from 14-17th November 2019. in Belgrade, venue University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture, gathering  academics, professionals and practitioners in the fields of Architecture, Urbanism,  Technology, Design, Geo-informatics. This year the special focus in on using contemporary instruments and tools e in the process of sending messages in between Balkan differences focusing on enabling understanding and common space for creating new Balkan identity. It was supported by ISOCARP, Ministry od education, science and technological development, MapSoft.

Therefore, it explores past, present and future codes of building, designing, urban regulation, morphology, urban planning, used instruments and tools towards new paradigm of green: more transparent, efficient, ecologically friendly societies urbanism, architecture and design. Ecology is one of the main issue of global society, so the focus is on using contemporary tools in the fields to meet global standards and traditional diversity exploring / decoding the past and present traditions to code them  into coherent future actions among Balkan and the region. The conference gathered more than 30 participants from Serbia and abroad, and published International Conference Proceedings:   DECODING   BALKAN:   ARCHITECTURE,   URBANISM,   PLANNING,   ed.   T,Mrdjenovic.

BAB19 CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS

Special topics of the conference were:

01_ARCHITECTURAL PRACTICES IN CODING NEW IDENTITY

This session will discuss Architectural practices and theories in strive to code new identity among Balkan and wider region, especially taking into account cultural practices, new technology, dialogue in between differences.

02_PARTICIPATORY ACTION IN PLANNING, DESIGN, MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY – INSTRUMENTS AND TOOLS FOR CODING AND DECODING COMMUNICATION

This session will discuss communicative action in urban planning and urban design taking into account legislative, cultural, economic, barriers in communication in order to provide and present successful instruments in tools for its implementation in urban planning and design.

03_URBAN DESIGN STRATEGIES FOR TERRITORIAL DEVELOPMENT – CODING STANDARDS, PROCESSES AND TRANSFORMATIONS

This session will discuss micro and macro scale strategies for urban and wider territorial development taking into account sustainability and resilience in order to deliver new codes, standards and processes for greening space for healthy communities.

04_GEOGRAPHIC INFROMATION SYSTEM – GIS FOR URBAN PLANNING AND URBAN DESIGN – CODING PHYSICAL SPACE INTO VIRTUAL ONE

In tis session GIS will be discussed and powerful instrument and tool for managing urban and territorial development in all aspects of sustainability: ecology, connectivity/inclusiveness, economy in order to present new methods and tools for achieving principles of sustainability.

05_MOBILITY IN URBAN DEVELOPMENT – MOVING FROM TRANSPORT TO MOBILITY

This session will consider mobility as one of main paradigms of sustainable urban development in order to present and discuss new modes of moving through urban space integrating it into everyday lifestyle in order to present instruments and tools for achieving it.
