GLOBAL VILLAGE – SHELTER FOR RESILIENT LIVING was the main topic of BAB 21 nternational scientific conference which was held online from 9-10th Dec 2021. in organization of University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture and Balkan Architectural Biennale, supported by Ministry of education, science and technological development, endorsed by ISOCARP, gathering academics, professionals and practitioners in the fields of Architecture, Urbanism, Technology, Design, and Traffic. This year the special focus on new ways an forms of living in global village. Conference was opened by keynote lecture: “SPECULATIVE THINKING IN THEGLOBAL VILLAGE”, delivered by prof. dr Fernando Jerez, SMAR ARCHITECTURAL STUDIO. The conference gathered more than 30 academics among Balkan countries and wider region who presented their researchers in regards to main topic and special sessions.
The main editor and conceptor of the BAB and international conference, Tatjana Mrdjenovic,, announced the topic: “Networks of local and traditional patterns and forms of living are breaking down. It can be said that in this context, “iconic nomads” are formed and mature as spokespersons of local cultures. They are bearers of collective and personal identity and as such participate in creating a global village, incorporating elements of diversity and establishing new socio-cultural networks. The conference will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this paradigm at the architectural, urban-morphological, technological and planning level.”
KEYNOTE

Prof. Fernando Jerez is an international award-winning architect, designer and educator at UWA’s School of Design. He is interested in a design framework that erases the predefined limits of the traditional building structures for the benefit of the inclusion of technology and society. Dr Jerez is the founding partner of the award-winning Smar Architecture Studio, which has won more than 20 international awards. Dr Jerez and his team have been appointed to design Lithuania’s new National Science and Innovation Centre, known as Science Island, after winning an international competition comprising 144 teams from 44 countries.
